Functional Medicine and Nutrigenomics

Functional Medicine

Functional Medicine, also known as Integrative Medicine, brings together a whole systems approach to healthcare. Involving an understanding of the origins, prevention and treatment of complex, chronic disease such as heart disease, diabetes, mental illness and auto immune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis.

As with Traditional Acupuncture, Functional Medicine (FM) uses a back to basics approach to find the root cause of an illness. We do this through a patient centered care which promotes health as a positive vitality, beyond just the absence of disease.

We will look ‘upstream’ to consider the complex web of interactions in your history, physiology and lifestyle that can lead to illness.

In FM we delve deeper into the diagnostics with the use of comprehensive lab testing and or Nutrigenomic testing.

Functional Medicine Tree

As an FM practitioner I will spend time with you to get to know about your health goals, the symptoms that you would rather not have, the symptoms that you have had so long you have forgotten or ignored them. I will look at your lifestyle, environment and maybe also your genetics, your nutrition intake and your nutrition and health susceptibilities. Together we will work on the root cause of your condition so that you can live the life that you want

Your unique genetic makeup is considered along with both internal (mind, body and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning. FM allows me to integrate the ‘alternative’ acupuncture and hypnotherapy treatments with a western approach using lab tests where necessary and dietary advice together with stress management techniques to suit your particular constitution and requirements.

Genetic/ Nutrigenomic Testing

Provides an individualised approach to your healthcare where we look at key areas that may have a genetic impact on your health via your unique biochemistry in turn uncovering sensitivities and  susceptibilities that are damaging to your health’s full potential.

When is it useful to have a Nutrigenomic test?

When you find that you have tried a wide range of remedies and nothing is helping your condition or symptoms, or that you keep having the same reoccurring symptoms, or you simply wish to live the best and healthiest version of yourself now. Genetic testing can often help to get to the root cause so that we can tackle the issue literally through another pathway.
